Telephone callers hoping to speak to the Lord have been disappointed to find themselves connected instead to a Lancashire caterer. Andy Green, of Irlam, has been getting up to 70 calls a day after his number was given as a direct line to the man in the sky in Bruce Almighty starring Jim Carey. “Most people ring off, they don’t expect the Holy Father to have a Manchester accent,” says Andy. “The trouble is I’m starting to believe that I am God. I might have to go into therapy.”

Teenage garage singer Dizzee Rascal has beaten off established bands such as Coldplay & Radiohead to become the youngest winner of one of Britain's most prestigious music awards.
Dizzee’s debut album Boy in da Corner, described by the judges as "rough, raw and compelling", grabbed the 2003 Mercury Music Prize, given to the most outstanding British or Irish album of the year from the worlds of pop and rock to jazz and classical music.
Last year's winner was North London rapper and garage singer Ms. Dynamite. Sales of her winning album A Little Deeper soared after she scooped the award.
Dizzee Rascal beat some highly-rated competition to take Tuesday's honour. Spandex-wearing rockers The Darkness had been favourites among many to win with their first album, "Permission to Land".

In case you aren’t up on this bizarre craze, a good intro

He’s a legend, in case you didn’t know. Truly ‘gangster’ so learn his multi-talented rap history...
He was hilarious on Alan Yentob’s “Hip-Hop Generation” BBC documentary; very succinct and intense at the same time. Another academic (alas forget his name!) gave good BBC ‘byte’, describing rap as an ‘audio safari’.
The Ice T 'Westside' compilation which features James Hyman’s interview is still available.
